Mark Cramer will present an illustrated lecture on his restoration of a century-old historic Bluthner grand piano, followed by a mini-recital on the restored instrument by three Manitoba pianists.

Augustfest VII presents Brandon native Michelle Price, in the dual role of pianist and vocalist. Collaborative artist Everett Hopfner will provide accompaniments for her vocal selections.

Brandon University School of Music graduate Suzu Enns returns from Montreal to perform a evening of clarinet works, accompanied by collaborative artist Everett Hopfner.

Renowned Canadian tenor James McLennan is joined by sopranos Millicent Scarlett and Michelle Price in a gala evening of operatic solos, duets, and trios, with pianist Laura Loewen.

Continuing its custom of celebrating renowned Westman musicians and teachers, Augustfest sponsors a luncheon honouring Edna Knock. Purchase tickets for this event in advance at Brandon University School of Music office. Luncheon held at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church.

SATURDAY, AUGUST 13, 2016 3:00 PM A MUSICAL DETECTIVE STORY

Readings from Clinkerstone, a novel by Brandon-born Michael Kearns which explores how memories are stamped on the music people perform or create. After a chance meeting with its composer, musician Sean Gallagher searches for the missing movements of a melancholy piano sonata. The presentation closes with the sonata as imagined by composer Adam Gorb.

James McLennan and Millicent Scartlett join the Augustfest String Quartet in an evening of favourites from the Great American Songbook, as arranged by Laura Jones.

SUNDAY, AUGUST 14, 2016 3:00 PM THE AUGUSTFEST QUINTET

Augustfest VII closes with the glorious piano quintets of Schumann and Franck, as performed by Kristina Bauch (violin), Joan Dillon (violin), Greg Hay (viola), Laura Jones (cello), Donna Laube (piano).
